If we're gone, what exactly do we remember folks? Neal MacGregor, an artist, expired ironically, aged 44, in a stone hen house that he couldn't stand up in, at which he dwelt onto a remote island without electricity, water or heating. Even the Gaelic-speaking islanders on the rapidly depopulating island, knew little of Neal during the years he dwelt there. Who was that this specific Stranger? Was he a British spy record IRA gun running routes, as some islanders thought? Was he trying to take control of the island? Was he crazy, as others thought? Or was just seeking loneliness? Neal left volumes of attractively illustrated note books and secret diaries, and this gorgeous enigmatic film pulls together the thought of missing bits, also sensitively paints a portrait of a person, living on the border, physically and emotionally, and the insular island community he dwelt amongst.
